The Shop

The Last Chance Mercantile (LCM) is a unique and favorite shopping experience. The store offers an extensive inventory of one-of-a-kind items ranging from books to boats, scrap lumber to furniture, and clothing to household treasures. It’s been selected by the Monterey County Weekly Readers Poll as the “Best Eco Friendly Business in Monterey County” for many years.

We believe reuse is an important strategy to extend the life of products and reduce waste in our landfills. Since opening in 1991, the Last Chance Mercantile has been serving the community and the planet by redirecting used goods and discards that still have life from the landfill. The Last Chance Mercantile sells these goods that have either been donated or salvaged. Annually, over 700 tons of material destined for the landfill are given a “last chance” when they are sold at the store.

The Veterans Transition Center of California (VTC) expands ReGen's mission, “doing more to waste less” through its stewardship of this community treasure. Additionally, LCM serves as a means of “empowering veterans to move from crisis to self-sufficiency” through veteran employment at the Last Chance Mercantile and program funding for VTCs ongoing mission.

Donations

Gate Hours: Tuesday - Saturday 9am-3:30pm

Rather than throwing away reusable goods, consider donating them to the LCM; by doing so you help people and planet, by providing affordable goods to others, supporting our local green economy, and keeping usable resources out of the landfill. Donations of  reusable goods are still welcomed and customers will now be able to donate in a tax-deductible status. Additionally, reusable goods coming through Home Curbside Bulky Item Collection Service will be directed to the Mercantile for a “last chance”.

Donations are accepted ONLY during the hours of operation
